Chemchemi Ya Ukweli

Chemchemi Ya Ukweli (CYU) is an interfaith peacebuilding organization working to address political violence and related conflicts that undermine peace, justice, and social cohesion in Kenya. The organization focuses on empowering youth, women, political aspirants, and religious actors as key agents of change in their communities. CYU responds to challenges such as electoral violence, political polarization, hate speech, exclusion, and unresolved grievances that often escalate into insecurity before, during, and after elections. Through civic engagement, CYU supports communities to participate meaningfully across the entire electoral cycle by promoting informed participation, peaceful political competition, voter awareness, dialogue, and post-election reconciliation. What makes CYU unique is its strong grounding in Active Nonviolence and the Do No Harm approach. These principles guide all interventions, ensuring that peacebuilding efforts reduce harm, prevent escalation of tensions, and strengthen relationships across divides. CYU equips communities not only to reject violence but also to actively practice constructive, inclusive, and peaceful approaches to conflict transformation. Through grassroots mobilization, interfaith collaboration, capacity building, and sustained civic engagement, CYU fosters trust, accountability, and social cohesion while strengthening democratic participation and long-term peacebuilding.
