Black Earth is an agricultural and climate action initiative operated by FARMID AFRICA, focused on biochar carbon removal, sustainable biomass management, and regenerative farming. Our mission is to empower farmers, improve soil health, reduce agricultural waste, and contribute to the fight against climate change through practical, sustainable solutions.
We work with farmers to transform suitable agricultural biomass into biochar, a stable, carbon-rich material that can be applied to soil to support soil improvement and long-term carbon storage when properly produced and used. By promoting responsible biomass management and regenerative agricultural practices, Black Earth aims to turn agricultural challenges into opportunities for environmental restoration and improved farm productivity.
At Black Earth, farmers are central to our work. We aim to build a transparent and reliable system that connects farmers, project teams, verification processes, and relevant project partners.
Through farm registration, digital mapping, zoning, photographic evidence, and timestamp verification, we support accurate documentation of participating farms and project activities. These processes help strengthen accountability, improve monitoring, and support credible reporting of project progress.
Our approach recognizes that farmers need practical support, clear information, and fair programme procedures. Any applicable farmer payments and carbon-related benefits are governed by the relevant programme requirements, verified activities, and written agreements.
Black Earth seeks to contribute to climate change mitigation by supporting biochar production and the responsible storage of carbon in soils and other approved project applications. We also promote the responsible use of agricultural residues, improved soil management, and farming practices that can help strengthen resilience to changing climatic conditions.
Our work supports broader sustainability goals, including climate action, life on land, responsible resource management, and partnerships that bring farmers and other stakeholders together.
We recognize the importance of credible environmental claims. Carbon removal quantities and related benefits must be assessed using appropriate measurement, reporting, verification, and accounting procedures. We do not treat participation in the programme as an automatic guarantee of carbon credits or specific environmental outcomes.
To contribute to a future where farming supports healthy soils, responsible resource use, stronger rural livelihoods, and measurable climate action.
To support farmers and agricultural communities through biochar innovation, sustainable biomass management, regenerative farming, and transparent digital systems that promote environmental responsibility and credible carbon removal.
Promoting responsible farming and long-term environmental stewardship.
Placing farmers at the centre of sustainable agricultural transformation.
Supporting clear procedures, reliable records, and accountable project management.
Using practical technologies and digital tools to improve agricultural monitoring and project delivery.
Promoting accurate reporting, responsible carbon accounting, and trustworthy environmental claims.
Working collaboratively with farmers, agricultural organizations, technical experts, and other relevant stakeholders.
Black Earth brings together agriculture, technology, and climate action to help create opportunities for farmers while supporting responsible environmental management. Through FARMID AFRICA, we aim to develop a scalable approach that links sustainable farming practices with credible carbon removal and long-term environmental benefits.
